Welcome
At HOMES (Healthy Opportunities for Meaningful Experience Society),
we currently support nearly seventy individuals in the rolling hills of
the Fraser Valley about an hour east of Vancouver, BC.
We support individuals in traditional
shared homes of four persons, individual homes with one or two
persons and we have many Supported Family Care homes. We train our
caregivers in a philosophy of Gentle Teaching and our mentoring from
John McGee has led to the formation of Gentle Teaching
International, which is better known as GTI.
GTI works worldwide to support Gentle
Teaching through the
www.gentleteaching.com web page. We put aside the traditional
models of control, compliance and building independence - for a
philosophy of gentleness, companionship, caring, and building
inter-dependence and community.

Our story has recently been
documented in a
55 minute DVD entitled "I've been down that road" It's available for
viewing and purchase online. This DVD is the story of 10 of the
young men and women referred to HOMES when there appeared to be no
other options. They came from jails, the Forensic Institution,
Willow Clinic, many failed placements and the streets. The DVD
documents their climb back out despair and endless failure to a home
and worth in the community.
